Roundtable Discussion with Johan Spanner: War Photography and the

The United States Studies Centre in conjunction with the Department of Government and International Relations and Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney held a roundtable discussion with Johan Spanner, former war photographer for The New York Times and current researcher at the University of Copenhagen to present on the topic of war photography and the US military. Johan Spanner, a photojournalist now working at the Department for Political Science at the University of Copenhagen, covered conflict and politics for a decade. Working for US clients he became one of the few photographers to keep covering Iraq during the sectarian violence. He was part of the The New York Times’ Baghdad Bureau effort that was a 2008 Pulitzer Prize finalist for International Reporting.
Images and International Relations Workshop

Hosted by the Department of Government and International Relations and the Centre for International Security Studies, this workshop aimed to draw local and international experts on images and international relations. Scholars presented research in progress as well as debate key questions associated with the ethics, methodological challenges, and advantages associated with studying images.
