Q Doco

Project Q: War, Peace and Quantum Mechanics is a philosophical travelogue, scientific investigation and cautionary tale. The Q Doco journeys from Q Station, Sydney’s former quarantine site, to Berlin, Copenhagen, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Shanghai and New Delhi, in search of the origins and consequences of the next quantum revolution. Project Q explores how quantum could mitigate climate change, create new materials and optimise the flow of people, goods and money – and warns how it could also break encrypted messages, take surveillance data-mining and face-recognition to Orwellian levels of omniscience, change the nature of warfare on land, air and sea, and produce an artificial intelligence that is superior to humans, and learns to know it.

Q Book

The Q Book undertakes a transmedia investigation into the science, technology, geopolitics and meta-ethics of a quantum future.

But what is quantum mechanics? In the Q Book you will discover the history, principles and interpretations of quantum mechanics needed to understand the next wave of quantum innovation. After the atomic bomb and the semi-conductor, a new generation of quantum technologies is emerging with profound societal, geopolitical and ethical implications. Emergent quantum technologies have the potential to revolutionise geopolitics and the way we make war. The third quantum revolution, still in its early stages but progressing now quite rapidly, is bringing forth the whole range of ethical concerns.

Q Course

A self-paced teaching unit, ‘Preparing for a Quantum Future’ examines the geopolitical, societal and ethical implications of a quantum revolution emerging from universities, big tech, and governments.  The first of its kind, the Q Course provides a comprehensive, non-mathematical overview of quantum mechanics, from its historical origins and theoretical significance to its past applications and future potential.  It also explains how new quantum technologies in sensing, computing and communications are poised to transform medicine, finance, logistics, cryptology, encryption, surveillance, and more.  By taking this short online course, students will develop the knowledge and insights necessary to successfully navigate an emerging quantum future.
